How it all began

The Mercy Educational Welfare Society was started in 1976, by the late Mr.GUNA SEELAN, before that he started a school at Perundurai named as “Balar Kalvi Nilayam” , a primary school in 1971, later it changed to Mercy Garden matric school in 1975 with 4 branches around Erode district providing good education to 1000s of children from rural areas.

He worked among all kinds of people and the downtrodden people for more than 50 years till he died in the year 1995. He was a man and a charity worker. He was known for his social work among rural areas for more than 30 years. His commitments towards the poor children and women are remarkable. Hundreds of children have received the light of education through this dedicated person. He was serving the poor and the needy people till his last breath. His aim was to create a sustainable way to give something back to society. He started to work for the people who are really under the clutches of poverty and social backwardness. Following his vision MEWS provides help to the needy, education for poor children, funds for good causes, and all kinds of social services like health camps, public awareness programmes.
